Michele and Divik - California

Hi, My name is Michele and I'm taking this class with my 1yr old boy Divik.

I'm a dog trainer that's been teaching competitive sport detection for 10+ yrs.  I've previously taken a laser directional course with my now 10 yr old dog and although he had good sends, he never really seemed to see or register the laser as a salient stimulus.

I registered a little late for this course and just got my 2Qt rubber bowls a couple days ago -  had to order them. In the meantime I watched Module 1 and the posted videos.

I decided to use food as Divik is highly motivated for food and toys, and I thought food would be better for more calmess and reps. Well... first two sends were fast...he took the food and then grabbed the bowl as a new bonus toy to run around with. :-/  I should not have been surprised.  Guess I'm the only one with that challenge.

We are now working on run and grab the food, leave the bowl and return to me.  We have had 2 clean sessions indoors at close range (2-3 meters).  Gonna tighten that up before proceeding.

Happy to be here and look forward to learning and working through the challenges!

Hi Michele,

Thanks for joining the course. I hope you see great results from it with Divik.

The grabbing of the bowl for Malinous or Tervuren is not uncommon if the activity they are doing raises the excitement level to where their oral desires come into play.

You can see how the food work progresses, but if the bowl becomes a toy, it hinders the transition to laser somewhat, and you may be better off using a toy so the bowl is only the receptacle not the prize.

let us know how it goes.
